94,782 meals for seniors raised!!

Meals On Wheels Atlanta supporters attended the sold out 27th annual black-tie gala, A Meal to Remember, on Friday November 7 at the St. Regis Atlanta in Buckhead.

Guests were treated to a multi-course dinner that was prepared by celebrated chefs, including Chef Marc Forgione, Restaurant Forgione, New York, NY; Chef Randy Lewis, Gypsy Kitchen, Atlanta, GA; Chef Eric Snow, Café Boulud, Palm Beach, FL; Chef Joe Trevino, St. Regis, Atlanta, GA; and Chef Quentin Donnaud, Coast, Atlanta, GA.

The evening, which was chaired by Patti Dickey, Lovette Russell and Dottie Smith, also included a live and silent auction featuring restaurant packages, delicious wines, extravagant trips, art and more.  Guests helped honor longtime supporters AGL Resources for their generous support of A Meal to Remember since its inception and in recognition of retired AGL President, Isaac Blythers.

We would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who came out to show their support.  The annual event helped raise more than $545,000, which translates into 94,782 meals for seniors!  Meals On Wheels Atlanta delivers more than 130,000 meals annually to frail and homebound seniors unable to prepare or afford the nutrition they need so this event alone is critical to making that happen!

Adult Day Health & Atlanta Housing Authority

The month of November has been fun filled and busy for Adult Day Health. We have officially kicked off our partnership with the Atlanta Housing Authority in efforts of placing more seniors in programs and aiding head of households the ability to find work and or schooling. We received our first referral and have begun providing services for that family. We are currently working and assessing all other referrals as they come in.  The partnership strengthens our efforts to push each agency’s missions while becoming a bigger presence in the community.

Finally, we finished our lovely quilt this month that our senior companions and seniors have been working so hard to complete. Our seniors worked diligently day in and out to make certain that they finished the quilt. The finished product is amazing and inspiring alike. This month we had a wonderful time in Adult Day Health.

3rd Annual Georgia Gives Day

On November 13th, Meals On Wheels Atlanta participated alongside with hundreds of other non-profit organization statewide in the 3rd Annual Georgia Gives Day.  As a result of this fundraising effort, we raised $2,263 in 24 hours to support MOWA programs!  Statewide, donors gave $2,332,440 to the non-profits of their choice, a record-setting year for Georgia Gives Day. Thank you to all of our donors who made the day a success and to those who shared the news on social media! As we head into the holidays, MOWA will also be joining into the #GivingTuesday movement to raise additional funds on December 2nd, so watch our Facebook and Twitter feeds to learn more about this exciting approach to holiday giving.

Peachtree Elementary

Students from a service club at Peachtree Elementary made some wonderful fall/autumn/Halloween themed placemats for our seniors to enjoy.  57 placemats and an adorable cup holder were designed, put together, and laminated by the students.  Renee Corley, a counselor at Peachtree Elementary, coordinated the project and hand delivered the placemats in time for Autumn Festivities.
