We are so excited to participate in the nationwide March for Meals campaign, spearheaded by Meals On Wheels America. To celebrate the signing of an amendment to the Older Americans Act which established Meals On Wheels, communities across America are coming together and donating, volunteering, or participating in events that benefit their local meals programs. All it takes to be a part of March for Meals is to donate, volunteer, or spread the message using the hashtag: #marchformeals!
Celebrate the Plate is coming up quick, so don't forget to buy your tickets! $75 gets you delicious bbq, drinks and a great show by the Quaildogs. We will also have some exciting items available for raffle. Mark your calendars now!
For two years now, Kenneth Jones has shown up at Meals On Wheels Atlanta nearly every single day. He spends most of his time in our Northside Senior Center, helping out all the ladies and gentlemen he lovingly refers to as his grandparents. Leisa Minor, manager of Northside, calls him her “unofficial assistant” and wishes she could pay him out of her own pocket for everything that he does. She also believes that he is one of the kindest, most patient people she has ever met, and she doesn’t know what she would do without him. On his days off, which are few and far between, Kenneth enjoys reading, exercising, and spending time with his family.
He has lived in Atlanta his entire life; the only change he wishes to see is for more love and compassion among its residents—and he certainly practices what he preaches. He says, “If you love people, giving back comes naturally, especially to these people, because they raised us.” The seniors obviously love him, too, as they cheered enthusiastically and couldn’t wait to take a picture with him as he received his award.
