Last week we showered our volunteers with a little extra love, thanks, and a few treats for Volunteer Appreciation Week. Each day had a its own theme and special way to celebrate our volunteers. We capped off the week with Gratitude in the Garden, an event centered around thanking everything that our volunteers do for us. During the event, volunteers enjoyed wine, hors d'oeuvres, and dessert, along with the chance to interact with other volunteers they don't see on a regular basis. Wil Williamson (pictured) then presented Meals On Wheels Atlanta with a $1,000 gift from the Allstate Foundation. We are so grateful for this gift as well as all of the time and effort our volunteers give every day.
There are some people that have the ability to truly light up a place when they enter, that is Deb Vander Ploeg. She has been volunteering with Meals On Wheels Atlanta since September 2015, and she has dedicated her time to our mission 3-4 times a week by delivering meals to Atlanta seniors. She arrives each morning, Tuesday through Thursday, and sometimes Friday, with such a jovial spirit—always willing to lend a helping hand. She has selflessly come in during inclement weather to help pack and deliver meals, she is here on holidays giving back, and goes above and beyond her volunteer duties to help people in the community in any way she can. We have chosen Deb as the April Volunteer of the Month because she is the epitome of kindness and generosity. We greatly value her here at MOWA, and the impact she continually makes on our seniors, staff, and everyone she comes in contact with. Thank you for all you do for MOWA, Deb!
