The 16th Annual Meals On Wheels Atlanta Golf Tournament raised $100,000 for our seniors! Thanks so much to our board chairs, Brooks Fischer and Peter Mace, all of our sponsors including Presenting Sponsor Hodges-Mace, and the Capital City Club for hosting us another year. Congratulations to all of our winners!
We are conducting a community-wide canned food drive to stock our Emergency Food Pantry. Our shelves are looking a little sparse and we are making an urgent appeal to the community help us create an abundance of food to distribute during the holidays and cold winter months for Atlanta’s most vulnerable seniors. Host a canned food drive at your work place, school or place of worship – this is a great team building activity for the holidays. For more information about how to participate, please contact Rochelle Reeder, Individual Giving Manager, at email@example.com

Timothy has been volunteering with MOWA for a year in October. He volunteers Monday through Friday, diligently packing meals for our seniors. We are so grateful to have him here everyday; Not only is he an incredibly hard worker, but he is genuinely a pleasure to be around. When he's not volunteering, he likes to be out in the community just getting to know the other people who live there. He also loves the NBA and is a die hard Atlanta Hawks fan.
For the last several years, Kaiser Permanente of Georgia has funded the Extra Helping and Care Management Initiative at Meals On Wheels Atlanta (MOWA). The initiative enables MOWA to offer additional assistance to our most vulnerable Meal Services clients. This past year, Kaiser’s grant of $50,000 helped move high-need seniors off our waiting list, provide meal supplements to those with severe food insecurity or health problems, and offer additional client care to those who are most at-risk.
“With the aging Baby Boomer generation, MOWA’s greatest challenge is addressing the growing senior hunger crisis in Atlanta,” said MOWA CEO Charlene Crusoe-Ingram. One in six older Georgians currently struggles with food insecurity, but as 100 Baby Boomers join Atlanta’s senior population every day, the number of seniors in need is skyrocketing.
But hunger is only one of the problems that our partnership with Kaiser Permanente helps address. A high percentage of senior meal recipients have chronic illnesses such as arthritis, hypertension, heart disease, and diabetes. The specialized care provided by Kaiser's Extra Helping and Care Management Initiative will help combat these illnesses and the devastating effects they can have on seniors’ lives.
Kaiser Permanente of Georgia is a valued partner in MOWA’s work to promote the health and wellness of Atlanta’s seniors.
