 Winter Weather

Can you believe this crazy winter weather we have been experiencing?  The snow, the ice & the cold!  Through it all, we maintained critical services for our senior clients. In advance of the inclement weather, we delivered additional meals for days when the roads were too icy for delivery.  The extra meals are delivered frozen and are perfect for emergency situations.  Also, the MOWA Home Repair Services team has given 60 space heaters to 22 seniors.  "Although, we have had many more requests than that," says Joseph Guy, Director of Home Repair Services, "we have prioritized and given space heaters to people who do not have heat."

Check out this WSB-TV report that featured our team delivering space heaters.

March for Meals

Meals On Wheels Atlanta will be participating in the 12th Annual March for Meals.  March for Meals is a nationwide campaign sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of America to promote awareness and participation in Meal on Wheels programs.  This program is to ensure that the 8.8 million seniors struggling with isolation and hunger in America will not be forgotten.  Businesses, all levels of government and over 2 million volunteers work together to deliver a meal, a safety check and a smile. Often that's all that takes to enable our Seniors to live independently at home. Stay tuned for more information on how you can participate in this great program!

Volunteer Spotlight ~ LaGrange College

Last month we hosted a group of LaGrange College students who volunteered with us as part of their January Term class on Shelters.  The class delivered meals, helped out in the kitchen and spent some time with the seniors in Adult Day Health.   Thanks for all your help LC!!

 Valentine Cards

Special thanks to our Valentine Volunteer of the Year ~ Deanna Cleland for writing and sending Valentines Day cards to our seniors.

Deanna Cleland, a volunteer from Ohio, was visiting her daughter in Atlanta over the Christmas holidays.  She saw our plea for volunteers on the news and although she wasn’t able to deliver meals, she thought she could send some joy to our seniors by sending Christmas cards to them.  Her act was so selfless and appreciated that we continued the conversation to Valentine’s Day and she sent over 275 Valentines Day cards!

Black History Month
Many of our seven neighborhood Senior Centers will be celebrating Black History Month.  Northside Activity Center, along with Bethlehem Senior Center, will be hosting a "Remember When" luncheon on February 28th.  Seniors will present topics from their earlier years.  Topics will range from education, toys, finances to the Civil Rights era.
