URGENT Call for Volunteers!!!

Meals On Wheels Atlanta Needs Your Help This Holiday Season!! Can you imagine being homebound and hungry during the holidays? Can you fathom not having the energy or physical ability to cook for yourself?

Unfortunately, hundreds of seniors in metro Atlanta face this reality.  YOU can help by devoting around 2 hours of your time to deliver meals on Thanksgiving Day and/or Christmas Eve! Grab your winter coat, hop in the family vehicle, and be on your way to help make some seniors smile this holiday season! To sign up and for further information, please contact Jason Tucker, Volunteer Coordinator, at (404) 351-6194 or via email at volunteercoordinator@mealsonwheelsatlanta.org

The Real Hunger Games

Recently, Meals On Wheels Atlanta was highlighted in an ariticle in The Nation.  The Real Hunger Games focused on "the hidden hunger few ever see"- the elderly.  Doing what they can Meals On Wheels organizations, around the country, still have waiting lists and they are growing!  "Almost 15 percent of the nation's elderly don't have enough to eat!"  Currently, MOWA has a waiting list of 175 seniors.

Special Events!

What a fantastic few months we’ve had!  We recently wrapped up our 26th annual A Meal to Remember raising a record-setting $648,000!  Thanks to our wonderful co-chairs, Nancy Brown, Marlene Alexander and Tony Conway and all the sponsors who made this event such a success.

In September we had our 13th annual Golf Tournament , which was held at Capital City Club and also had a record -setting year raising $120,000.  This annual event is always so fun!  We couldn’t have done it without our event chairs Peter Mace, Ransom James and Brooks Fischer.

Next on our agenda is our annual Santa for Seniors luncheon at The Estate on Tuesday, December 3rd.  We have chairs Dottie Smith, Jade Sykes Slover and Jill Berry to thank for this fun and heartwarming event that collects holiday gifts to be delivered with meals on Christmas Eve.  For tickets or information please contact Jessica Perno at jperno@mealsonwheelsatlanta.org or 404.605.8450

We will wrap the presents that are collected at the Santa for Seniors luncheon on Wednesday, December 18 at 10 a.m. at our office location.  If you are interested in helping please contact Jessica Perno.

Thank you to The Home Depot!

The Home Depot Foundation is a generous and long-time supporter of Meals On Wheels Atlanta’s HOMES program, and Team Depot volunteers have also contributed hands-on hours working on the homes of our seniors. We are proud to partner with the Home Depot to provide critical home repairs and modifications for seniors Veterans throughout Metro-Atlanta. Last year, we provided repairs and modifications for 38 metropolitan Atlanta Veteran seniors, with 12 new roof or major roof repairs completed, and an additional 26 veterans received accessibility modifications and home repair services that enabled these Veterans to remain in their own homes and communities as they age.
