A BIG Thank you to our friends at Wells Fargo for a recent grant of $10,000 for our Meals Services Program. This support will provide 1,739 meals to Atlanta seniors this year!

We received $1,500 from the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) for our participation in the 12th Annual March for Meals. Meals On Wheels Atlanta participated as one of 350 local celebrations which helped raise awareness of senior hunger and generated the participation of more than 2,600 Community Champions. We are so proud to be a member of MOWAA!

We’d like to recognize Family Dollar for their recent contribution of $500 in gift cards. Each of the 7 neighborhood senior centers operated by Meals On Wheels Atlanta are located in close proximity to a Family Dollar, so we appreciate this local support!

Appreciation Luncheon

Here at Meals On Wheels Atlanta our Senior Companions program is currently made up of 42 Senior Companions.  Senior Companions is a Senior Corps program funded nationally by the Corporation for National and Community Service. At MOWA companions are older volunteers (age 55 and over) who provide assistance and friendship to our older adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks.   Last month, an end of the year appreciation luncheon was held to show our gratitude.  38 of our Senior Companions travelled together to the fair city of Chattanooga where they had lunch and a recognition ceremony on the Southern Belle, a local river boat attraction.  Everyone had a great time and once again, we’d like to thank our senior companions for all work you do for our clients!

Volunteer Spotlight

Saturday, June 21st a team of 8 volunteers representing CarMax.com assisted MOWA’s meal delivery program by distributing meals to several Southside seniors in need. In a matter of a few hours, Carmax.com’s team successfully delivered meals to 12 seniors and spent a little quality time with each one. Being one of the most energetic groups of volunteers we've had, Carmax.com’s team was truly a joy to interact with. We truly appreciate their hard work and dedication to fulfilling our mission! They had great time giving back to our senior community and they will definitely be returning!

If you or your organization are interested in volunteering contact Jason Tucker, our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@mealsonwheelsatlanta.org

Adventures In Missions

From June 23rd  until July 22nd several great teams of volunteers from Adventures In Missions joined MOWA’s programs.  Adventures In Missions is a an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship.  Their volunteers come from all over the county to assist the least fortunate.  Volunteers assisted our senior centers and Adult Day Health center by facilitating  fun activities and providing social intergenerational interaction.  In addition, volunteers assisted our home repair department by providing lawn maintenance to seniors in need.  They truly took our mission to heart and aided in fulfilling it.  Thanks Adventures In Missions!!!
